Hurst Green Community Centre has been a valuable resource for the local area for nearly two generations, and we want it to remain so. Some of you may only know it as the hall you go to vote, while others will know it as home to a pre-school, a youth club, and various indoor sports, fitness, and social clubs, as well as a venue for birthday parties, live shows, and more.

It may be well-loved, but it's an aging building. In fact, it's a Reema (prefab) building which is nearing the end of its life; the roof needs replacing in the next four years. So, the group of volunteers that help run the Centre are currently pushing for a grant from the council's Your Fund Surrey initiative to pay for essential renovations.

But why stop there? The funding round also presents the opportunity to extend the Centre and transform it into a place for so much more!

It's an acorn of an idea, which is why we've dubbed it The Acorn Project.

We've already drawn up architectural plans (see above) to create brand new spaces, both indoor and outdoor within the grounds. These could host the likes of a cafe, a GP outreach / physiotherapy clinic, a coworking office, an SEN room, a medium-sized hall for daytime meetings and events (e.g. mother & baby groups, probation services, support groups, weddings etc), and even an outdoor lawn for special needs and wellbeing classes.
We'd love to hear more ideas too. If you'd like to see the plans in person, please email our Centre manager at kelly@hgcc-surrey.org.uk.
